Nicolet College kicks off Indigenous Way of Knowing program

Nicolet College kicked off its Indigenous Way of Knowing program today with a powwow. The event marked the first powwow in quite some time that many of the participants have attended because of the pandemic. It didn't get in the way of the dancing, drumming, storytelling and singing that took place all day long. Participants in these activities came from various tribes across the state as all 11 federally recognized tribes in Wisconsin were represented at the powwow. Organizers say they see this as merely the first of what will become an annual tradition.

NWTC receives $2m grant to bolster student success, equitable outcomes

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College has been awarded a $2 million grant by the U.S. Department of Education to strengthen student success and close equity gaps in higher education. “It’s important that students see themselves with passion in the profession they have chosen,” said Dr. Jeff Rafn, president of NWTC. “This grant focuses on engagement, a critical component, and the next step we need to take on our continued path to ensuring student success.”

FVTC a dual credit partner for New London’s expanding Career & Tech Ed program

A New London High School program that prepares students for careers in the skilled trades is getting even better. About 340 students enrolled in at least one of the program’s 18-course options this year. Students like Noah Furman say he wants to follow in the footsteps of his dad and become an electrician. “It’s fun, you can learn life skills here,” explained Furman.

Madison College’s Goodman South Campus hosts first-ever Immigration Resource Fair

The Dane County Department of Human Services Immigration Affairs Office, in conjunction with the Mexican Mobile Consulate, Madison College, Centro Hispano, and many other non-profit organizations, hosted the first annual Immigration Resource Fair November 20-21, 2021.

Business leaders gather at NTC to learn how apprenticeship grows workforce

Over 70 business leaders from 60 local companies attended the “Grow Your Workforce Through Apprenticeship” event held at Northcentral Technical College (NTC). The event was held in recognition of National Apprenticeship Week and was designed to showcase the benefits that apprenticeship brings to businesses as they work to recruit and retain top talent.

NWTC celebrates alumni & local businesses in the community

Northeast Wisconsin Technical College hosted one of it annual alumni awards ceremony, Tuesday night, to recognize the outstanding achievements of recent graduates who are making a difference in the community. The awards are aimed at highlighting alums early in their careers as well as recognizing a local business who has been dedicated to education within the technical field.

WCTC opening new campus training facility, shooting range in January

Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) is wrapping up the construction of a new police training building, which will include classrooms and a new indoor shooting range, and Fletcher Arms will soon be taking over WCTC’s old shooting range at the Pewaukee Campus.

Gateway will provide training for Employ Milwaukee’s “Skillful Transitions” program

Employ Milwaukee Inc. was awarded a $5.3 million grant from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development to launch an initiative aimed at connecting traditionally underserved groups to jobs. The grant will support the Milwaukee workforce development board’s new Skillful Transitions program, which is expected to serve 500 participants. The program will provide individualized assessment of skills, experience and job readiness, and will be coupled with the organization’s CareerWork$ job readiness training and paid work experience program.
