Rock University High School enrollment grows

Rock University High School’s enrollment is growing as more students seek to get a head start on college. In partnership with and located on the campus of Blackhawk Technical College (BTC), the school gives students the opportunity to earn college credits with the ultimate goal of having them graduate with a associate degree.

Lakeshore Technical College 'guarantees' its summer and fall classes won't go virtual

Classes at Lakeshore Technical College will be in-person during the summer and fall, the college announced Wednesday. LTC "guarantees" that none of the courses will shift back to virtual learning in the summer or fall, even temporarily, according to a news release.

Ahnapee Diesel a first-of-its-kind opportunity

A pit stop in the future of Wisconsin’s trucking industry is progressing in Casco. Construction at the former Luxemburg-Casco Middle School has been going on for just over a month as it retrofits a portion of the building to a diesel truck and a fabrication lab.

Military veterans create online farmers market

Late in 2019, a group of military veterans in the Fox Valley banded together to sell their products. Originally, they hoped to open a retail store but then Covid-19 hit. Like many things in the past year, they took it online and created a virtual farmers market called the Camo Co-op and they now bring the goods to their customers.

It’s never too late: 67-year-old Madison man graduates high school

Every day for the last two years, a Madison man has shown that through hard work anything is possible. “I know it sounds silly to you or crazy to you and you may not understand it,” 67-year-old Charles Satterfield said. “But, yeah, having a high school diploma and degree, ‘Charles G. Satterfield.’ Wow.” Satterfield received a GED diploma on Thursday at Madison College. The next morning, he went back to the school to work. He has been a custodian there for the last several years.

NTC offering high school graduates free summer classes

Northcentral Technical College is giving recent high school graduates the chance to earn college credits for free. Through the COVID Catch Up program graduates from the classes of 2020 and 2021 from schools in NTC's district can earn up to six credits this summer. In addition to the free college credits, books and supplies for classes will also be free.

Weigel to sit on World Dairy Expo board

Ryan Weigel, animal science instructor at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, was appointed to a corporate seat on the World Dairy Expo Board of Directors by the Wisconsin Holstein Association. He has been a board member of the Wisconsin Holstein Association for four years and is currently serving on its executive committee.

IT program brings sibling CVTC grads closer

For the past two years, at the end of each semester, a pair of Chippewa Valley Technical College IT-Network Specialist students compared their grade reports. They weren’t just a couple of friends in the program asking one another how they did. This was a comparison with a familial edge to it.

CVTC names Beaton-Garcia new president

Chippewa Valley Technical College is announcing its selection of its next president. Thursday, CVTC announced that Dr. Sunem Beaton-Garcia, who will be the first woman and first Latina to be CVTC’s president, will begin her term on July 1.

WCTC experiencing heavier demand for culinary students and graduates

Although economic activity is trending back towards pre-pandemic levels and COVID-19 cases remain low, some sectors remain more hamstrung  than others. One in particular continues to struggle despite consumer enthusiasm: restaurants. “The industry is at a standstill,” said Fishbones
Cajun & Creole Restaurant General Manager Silver Mitchell. “Not a single person around here can hire new employees because there’s nobody applying.”
