Masters uses emergency training in life-threatening situation
When faced with a life-threatening situation, people have varying reactions. For Hannah Masters, a Criminal Justice student and employee with the Campus Security Program at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, she was faced with such a scenario recently. A Kendall, Wisconsin native, Masters was visiting her family during spring break when she was called into action. While driving in a rural area near her home with her boyfriend and her brother, a man ran into the road and flagged down the vehicle. As Masters explains it, the man was panicked and describing that his wife was choking. Her training as part of the Criminal Justice program, as well as the Campus Security Program, kicked in. She instructed her brother to call 911 immediately and she expected to use CPR for the first time momentarily. She was CPR certified as part of the Campus Security Program training.
NTC offers new scholarship for young women leaders
A new scholarship at Northcentral Technical College is aiming to encourage women to pursue leadership roles. The Charmaine Whitburn Women's Leadership Scholarship will provide at $1,500 dollar scholarship to a full time student out of the Merrill School District.
Madison College Paramedic Academy students pass key benchmarks
Since August, through Madison College lectures, labs, clinicals, and real-life calls, Tasha Kirch and nine other classmates have been pursuing their dream of becoming paramedics through the Madison College Paramedic Academy. In Tasha’s case, it was a dream to serve inspired by a nightmare in her neighborhood when Tasha was just 9. A girl her age and four other children died in a fire across the street from Tasha’s apartment. She said, “I lived at Somerset Circle in 1990 when that big fire happened. I think that’s kind of what got me going on this path "
